Morocco is one of the world’s most rewarding destinations for birdwatching — home to over 460 recorded species including African and European migrants, endemics and rarities rarely seen elsewhere. The Souss-Massa National Park near Agadir hosts the critically endangered Northern Bald Ibis. The Khnifiss Lagoon on the Atlantic coast attracts flamingos, spoonbills and waders in huge numbers. The Middle Atlas cedar forests shelter European endemics and Barbary macaques. Merzouga’s oasis and salt lakes at dawn attract desert warblers, cream-coloured coursers and Saharan species. The Ourika Valley and High Atlas are excellent for raptors including Bonelli’s Eagle and Lammergeier. Birdwatching Morocco is best between October and April.
