Sandboarding

Sandboard down the magnificent golden dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga — the Sahara’s answer to snowboarding and one of the most exhilarating activities in the Moroccan desert. Boards and sleds are available to rent at the edge of the dunes. The descent from the summit of a high dune takes around 20–30 seconds and sends a spray of fine sand in all directions. Climbing back up is the challenge — but the view from the top over the entire Erg makes it worth every step. Best done at sunset when the light is dramatic and the sand has cooled. Usually combined with the camel trek as part of a desert camp experience.
