Todra Gorge is one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in Morocco — a 300-metre sheer canyon barely 10 metres wide at its narrowest point, carved by the Todra River through the limestone of the High Atlas. The walls are vertical, striated with mineral colours, and catch extraordinary light in the early morning. A cold, clear river runs along the gorge floor. Rock climbers come from across Europe for over 150 bolted routes. Walkers can explore on foot along the canyon floor. Local cafés serve mint tea wedged between the cliffs. Located near Tinghir, 180km east of Ouarzazate and approximately 60km from Merzouga. Usually visited as a half-day stop on the Marrakech–Fès desert crossing.
