🌿 Berber Villages

The Atlas Mountains are Morocco’s magnificent backbone — a chain of three ranges stretching 2,500km from the Atlantic to Algeria. The High Atlas near Marrakech reaches 4,167m at Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak. Whether you want a gentle day walk through Berber villages or a challenging multi-day trek to Toubkal’s summit, the Atlas offers some of Africa’s most rewarding mountain experiences.

Atlas Mountain Regions

High Atlas (Haut Atlas)

Home to Toubkal, the Ourika Valley, and the Aït Benhaddou foothills. Easily accessible from Marrakech (1–2 hours). Best for trekkers and day-trippers alike.

Middle Atlas (Moyen Atlas)

A gentler, forested range near Fes and Meknes. Famous for cedar forests, Barbary macaque monkeys, and the beautiful Ifrane hill station known as “Morocco’s Switzerland.”

Anti-Atlas

A dramatic, remote landscape of granite peaks, argan forests, and ancient rock carvings. Best explored from Agadir or Tafraoute.
