Sahara Desert & Merzouga

The Sahara Desert region around Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes — Morocco’s most dramatic desert landscape. Erg Chebbi is a 50km-long field of star dunes rising up to 150 metres above the Tafilalt plain. The gateway town of Merzouga sits at the edge of the dunes. The desert here offers camel trekking, Berber camps, sandboarding, quad biking, stargazing and some of the most extraordinary sunrises and sunsets in the world. The wider Sahara region extends south through Rissani and Zagora to the Erg Chigaga dunes near M’hamid — more remote, less visited, equally spectacular.
