The Draa Valley is Morocco’s longest river valley — a 200km corridor of date palms, ancient kasbahs, Saharan light and biblical desert landscape stretching south from Ouarzazate to Zagora and M’hamid at the edge of the great Sahara. The valley is lined with ksar villages of ochre mud-brick, each surrounded by its own palm grove. The dates grown here are considered the finest in Morocco. The Agdz palm grove, the Figuig oasis and the Tamnougalt kasbah are highlights. The Erg Chigaga dunes near M’hamid — far less visited than Erg Chebbi — offer a more remote and authentic desert experience. The Draa Valley is a key part of all southern Morocco desert tours.
